Summer coming to a close

This week is our closing weekend for our Muskoka store until next year, our offical close date is Septmeber 5th, however we are available for special orders and parties.

On Septmber 4th everything in the store freezers will be marked down 50%, so come on in and stock up.

We have had great response this summer so we are opening a retail store in our Bathurst Street location in mid October, we will keep you posted with the timeline.

Breakfast Televsion

I am really excited to let you all know I will be doing my first spot on Breakfast Televsion on August 14...between 7 and 9.

I will be working with Tetra Pak on green party themes, hope you can watch!

Fresh from the Farm:


We will be carrying some Muskoka Baby Potatoes and are they ever good! We have a mixture of them, red, purple, yellow and white. There are many choices, we have them Roasted with whole Garlic and in Potato Salads ~ three different ones to choose from this week! Tradional tossed in light Mayo, Roasted with Mushroom tossed in a vinagrette and Arugala Pesto Tossed!


This weekend we will have Bok Choy and Swiss Chard as well.

One last thing...I have been selected as the Tetra Pak spokes person...so let me suggest that you buy some wine in Tetra Pak packaging this weekend, the containers are recyclable, they are light to carry, easy to dispose in your recycles box..or take them to the bottle depot for your deposit refund...the best part is that the wine is really good! I tried the Pelee Island Pinot Grigio....I would put that against the Italian version any day...its a winner...and its local wine with a definite cost savings!

This week in Port Carling

We had a great second weekend on our new food shop, most of all we were happy to see some of our loyal customers from last year who where excited about the changes and our vision for this summer. 

So far the farms only have rhubarb, but the crops are in the grounds and are starting to sprout. This summers bounty looks promising, Chef Rui and I are planning our creations that will be available for all of you to enjoy.

Each week we will have "What's in Store" a listing of all the delicious prepared food items that we will have to take the cooking out of cottage...and give you the well deserved time that you need to regenerate.

OPULENCE CATERING AND EVENT MANAGEMENT

Summer is too short…so why cook if you don’t have too.

Due to the demand of the cottagers and residents in the Muskoka area, a new food shop has opened up in Port Carling at the offices of Opulence Catering, your new gourmet destination.

Last year we offered dockside delivery and pick up at our store for pre ordered prepared food, now you can expect our wonderful prepared food ready to go in our new refrigerator section. Our Chef, Rui Cardoso, will be preparing these wonderful selections of summer treats for your family and guests to enjoy.

Our refrigerators will be brimming with displays of pre-cooked meats, vegetables, decadent pastries and our famous hors d’ oeuvres ready to go! We will also be carrying a full line up of ready-to-serve salads, tea sandwiches and our new line of zero fat salad dressings. The new freezer section with be stocked with other gourmet foods that can be thawed and served with minimal hassle. Don’t forget to try our hot and cold soup selections, a new addition to the line up.

Opulence is also a proud member of Savour Muskoka. Throughout the summer, we will showcase food from our local food growers…heirloom potato salad, maple glazed squash, gourmet mixed green salads and Muskoka mushrooms, just to name a few. As the produce becomes available we will have new gourmet food ready to tantalize your palette.

Chef Rui has also been busy working with local suppliers to create BBQ ready meats, marinated and packaged ready for your hot grill. Our pastry selection has also expanded…the new brownies are scrumptious, crème Brule in porcelain ramekins and mini mousse shooters. Don’t forget to try our famous mini lobster Mac n Cheese in bio degradable containers.

Our goal is to provide healthy fresh food, organically grown by our local farmers, and to make your summer easy so that you can just sit back and enjoy.

Of course we are ready to take your orders for larger parties and plan your next event from start to finish. Let us take care of all the details while you sit back and relax in that Muskoka chair!

With our green initiative we are also happy to plate your food on china platters, so all you have to do is unwrap and serve. Consider this as the next great hostess gift, bring the food and leave the platter!

We now have an online ordering feature and all of our new corporate menus are listed and ready for you to enjoy.

Debbie has done a great job fomating all of the new menus as well and we are pleased to send out your own copy of a PDF file to you right away. We are no longer printing menus as part of our commitment to the enviroment.

We have made many changes, we are using local sesaonal food and our menus are lighter and full of fresh flavours. Chef Rui has been working hard to give all of you some new dishes to try. Wait for our seasonal menus. The first one will be ready in July 2009.

Breakfast at Opulence has changed, yes really! As there is more to the morning than muffins. Call your account manager as they will be happy to bring you a taste of Opulence.
